How BOTOX Works
BOTOX® (botulinum toxin type A) is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles—the lines that form from repeated expressions like squinting, frowning, and smiling. BOTOX works beneath the skin's surface by blocking the nerve signal (acetylcholine) that tells muscles to contract. The result is a smoother, more relaxed appearance without altering your facial structure or expressions.
Treatment results typically appear within 3–5 days and reach full effect by day 14. Most patients return for touch-ups every 3–4 months. Call for a free consultation and pricing estimate: (701) 809-9369
What Can BOTOX Treat?
BOTOX® is approved by the FDA for cosmetic use to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Facial expressions such as squinting, frowning, or smiling can cause wrinkles. Fortunately, injections of the botulinum toxin can be very effective in these areas as well. If your facial expressions are causing premature wrinkles to appear, or if you’re noticing the early signs of aging, BOTOX can be the perfect treatment for you.
BOTOX is also FDA approved for medical use. There are certain medical conditions, such as migraines, that BOTOX can be filed through your insurance. There are certain limitations to allow coverage, so please check with your individual insurance plan to see if BOTOX is an option for you.
How BOTOX Injections Can Help
The brain sends electrical messages to the muscles to promote muscle movement and contraction. This electrical message is transmitted by acetylcholine. BOTOX will block the release of this substance, preventing the muscles from receiving the message to contract. This means that muscle movements or muscle spasms that cause wrinkles are greatly reduced or stopped after the use of BOTOX .

Most appointments take 10–20 minutes from injection to walking out
the door.
At Altaire Clinic, we also offer Dysport® and Daxxify® — two
additional FDA-approved neurotoxins that work similarly to BOTOX

Consultation
Your provider will review your facial anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals, and determine the number of units and injection sites appropriate for your needs. New patients receive a full assessment; returning patients can proceed directly to treatment.
The Treatment
BOTOX is administered with a fine-gauge needle directly into the targeted muscles. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild pinch. A typical full-face treatment takes 10–20 minutes. No anesthesia is required.
Recovery
There is no downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately, with a few minor precautions: avoid touching or rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours, skip intense exercise for the remainder of the day, and stay upright for 4 hours post-treatment.
Results
Effects begin appearing within 3–5 days. Full results are visible at 14 days. Most patients return every 3–4 months to maintain results. With consistent treatment, many patients find results lasting longer over time.
Is BOTOX Safe? Risks & Considerations
BOTOX® has an established safety record with millions of treatments performed annually. Side effects are generally mild and temporary. Serious reactions are rare.
Other medications that can affect BOTOX include:
- Sleep medicine
- Cold medicine
- Blood thinners
- Antibiotic by injection
- Muscle relaxants
- Allergy medicine
Make sure you disclose any pre-existing medical conditions and any types of medications, including herbal supplements, that you are currently taking before undergoing treatment.
Treatment can cause flu-like symptoms in some patients, and other side effects, such as upset stomach, temporary eyelid ptosis, diplopia, ectropion, hematomas, or headaches.
Allergic Reaction to BOTOX
While rare, some patients may experience an allergic reaction to BOTOX . You must seek emergency medical attention if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to treatment, including:
- Difficulty breathing
- Hives
- Itching
- Dry mouth
- Swelling of the throat, tongue, lips, or face
BOTOX may spread to other areas of the body, which can cause serious side effects, including:
- Vision changes, such as blurred vision, double vision, irritated or dry eyes
- Drooping eyebrows or eyelids
- Trouble swallowing or talking
- Pressure in the chest or chest pain
- Pain or burning with urination
- Eye drainage or swelling

BOTOX Aftercare: How to Get the Best Results
Following your provider's aftercare instructions isn't optional — they're based on clinical observation and directly affect your outcome.
- Don't touch or rub the injection sites for at least 24 hours. BOTOX is a liquid that has been precisely placed; pressure or massage can shift it into unintended muscles.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for the remainder of treatment day. Increased blood flow can disperse the product before it sets.
- Stay upright for 4 hours post-treatment. No lying down or bending forward during this window.
- Keep up with regular appointments. Results improve with consistent treatment. Many patients find their results lasting longer over time as muscles gradually weaken with repeated use.
Your provider will review personalized aftercare instructions at your appointment.

Common Questions About Botox
Unfortunately, most insurance plans do not cover the cost of BOTOX treatment for cosmetic purposes. In some cases, insurance plans will cover the cost of Botox injections for medical conditions, such as the treatment of migraine headaches in adults. If you’re uncertain if your insurance plan covers treatment, contact them directly to learn more.
Time takes its toll on everyone and the signs of aging are most obvious in our faces. Over time, our facial movements, such as squinting, smiling, or frowning, can result in wrinkles. Lines and wrinkles will often become noticeable in our 30s or sooner, as our skin loses its firmness and elasticity. The resulting folds and creases will become more obvious as we get older. BOTOX provides a temporary solution for facial wrinkles and can be repeated every three months. It can also be effective in reducing neck bands, which are vertical creases that are caused by drooping muscle. Typically, injections are suitable for people eighteen and older who are in good physical health, with no history of neuromuscular disease. BOTOX is not suitable if you have: A neurological condition A facial ailment Deep facial scarring or thick facial skin facial muscle weakness Drooping eyelids Botox is also unsuitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
Your product is not diluted the same. Each provider has the option to dilute a product as they see medically fit. This is considered a prescription and it makes it very important to follow up with a licensed NP, PA, or MD to create an appropriate treatment plan. You may go to one clinic and receive 30 units vs 15 units at another clinic. This often leads to price wars. You may “pay more” for a treatment, but it really depends on how the provider is diluting as to how much active ingredient you are getting for that dollar amount. This is not standard across all clinics. This is the art of cosmetic dermatology. The 2nd reason it may not be working is that your body may become immune to the protein surrounding the active ingredient. This is not common, but we do see people build a resistance. Changing up your product is the best way to fight this resistance.
Neurotoxins, if injected correctly, can keep movement of the face and prevent line development. Your toxin should not feel heavy and it helps enhance your own natural features. If injected correctly, your friends and family should notice you look more “relaxed” or “your skin looks so smooth.” Celebrities often over-indulge in the cosmetic world losing their natural beauty. Just because celebrities have a lot of money, does not mean they are being correctly dosed. It takes time to learn a patient’s specific needs, so choose an injector carefully and stick with them. Jumping around clinics, to save few dollars, is where complications start to develop.
BOTOX pricing at Altaire Clinic is based on the number of units used, which varies by treatment area and individual anatomy. During your consultation, your provider will recommend a unit count and provide a transparent cost estimate before treatment begins. Call or book online for current pricing.
All three are FDA-approved neurotoxins that work similarly but differ in formulation, onset, and duration. Altaire Clinic offers all three options so your provider can recommend the best fit for your goals and lifestyle. See the comparison table above.
Cosmetic BOTOX is not covered by insurance. BOTOX for medical conditions such as chronic migraines may be eligible for coverage—contact your insurance provider to verify before your appointment.
