Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, XEOMIN, Jeaveau)

Most people have heard the word BOTOX®. If asked further about their thoughts regarding BOTOX®, there are so many varying opinions and controversy surrounding the topic. Altaire Clinic wants to help clarify a few of the controversies for you.

BOTOX® has been around for more than 20 years. It was the first of four current neuromodulators (or neurotoxins) on the market. Dysport™ was next to market followed by XEOMIN® and Jeuveau™. All four are FDA approved for treatment of wrinkles. There are benefits for each individual patient as to why to use each product. It is extremely important to consult with your provider each time you receive injections since your needs and dosing may change.

One of the most frequent questions asked is “How come my ‘Botox’ isn’t working like it used to?” There are two different answers to this question:

  1. Your product is not diluted the same. Each provider has the option to dilute a product as they see medically fit. This is considered a prescription and it makes it very important to follow up with a licensed NP, PA, or MD to create an appropriate treatment plan. You may go to one clinic and receive 30 units vs 15 units at another clinic. This often leads to price wars. You may “pay more” for a treatment, but it really depends on how the provider is diluting as to how much active ingredient you are getting for that dollar amount. This is not standard across all clinics. This is the art of cosmetic dermatology.
  2. The 2nd reason it may not be working is that your body may become immune to the protein surrounding the active ingredient. This is not common, but we do see people build a resistance. Changing up your product is the best way to fight this resistance.

Another common statement about neurotoxins is “I don’t want to look fake.” The Midwest is rather conservative regarding the interpretation of beauty. In the Midwest, we tend to appreciate a more natural look that ages gracefully with time. Neurotoxins, if injected correctly, can keep movement of the face and prevent line development. Your toxin should not feel heavy and it helps enhance your own natural features. If injected correctly, your friends and family should notice you look more “relaxed” or “your skin looks so smooth.” Celebrities often over-indulge in the cosmetic world losing their natural beauty. Just because celebrities have a lot of money, does not mean they are being correctly dosed. It takes time to learn a patient’s specific needs, so choose an injector carefully and stick with them. Jumping around clinics, to save few dollars, is where complications start to develop.

At Altaire Clinic, we have the experience, skills, and commitment to our patients in prescribing the correct dosage without over-dilution. We strive to exceed your expectations. Come and experience the Altaire difference for yourself.
