Pro-Nox
Dermatology and Med Spa Clinics around the United States have been buzzing about this analgesic device that is changing the way providers perform procedures. Nitrous oxide has been around since the 1700s, but more recently, delivery systems have found a market to lower the concentrations for an analgesic effect versus the anesthesia dosing. The Pro-Nox system is a device created by the respiratory company CAREstream America.
Why should I use Pro-Nox?
Altaire Clinic wants to bring patients the most up to date and greatest procedures available. The use of nitrous for analgesia is brand new to the Upper Midwest for clinic use. This is an option available for patients that fear a procedure or want to make it more comfortable. Historical numbing options do have potential side effects and in some procedures are not effective for pain control. Altaire now offers the option for pain-free procedures/injections under the direct supervision of a medical provider. Altaire Clinic is able to give this unique opportunity since the providers are the ones actually doing the hands-on procedures. At Altaire Clinic, safety is our number one priority with advanced degrees and years of experience in dermatology, family practice, critical care, and internal medicine.
How does Pro-Nox work?
The equipment handles the mixing to ensure a perfect 50/50 blend of nitrous oxide and oxygen. A patient will hold the mouthpiece and take an inhalatory breath when he or she feels pain. The patient only takes a breath of the gas when needed. This allows the patient complete control over their analgesic reaction. The Pro-Nox takes effect in seconds and offers immediate relief from pain and anxiety. Once the procedure is complete, the effects wear off in minutes allowing the patient to go about his or her day without downtime.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effect is nausea. If this does occur, the patient can remove the mouthpiece and take a few deep breaths of air and the nausea will resolve. Other side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, euphoria, numbness/tingling.
