Skin Lesion Removal - What It Is & Treatment Options

Everyone has likely dealt with a skin lesion at some point, whether on the face, neck, arms, or elsewhere. While these formations, which come in various types (such as moles, epidermoid cysts, and skin tags), are technically benign, they can still cause annoyance and a loss of comfort in your daily life.
If left untreated, skin lesions may grow in size, become irritated from constant chafing and rubbing, interfere with your clothing, and even cause outright pain. In the most extreme cases, a lesion can become so irritated that it starts bleeding!
At Altaire Clinic, we offer two different forms of lesion removal: either a simple surgical technique (such as with a scalpel or similar surgical instrument) or a laser removal procedure. Both of these methods are safe and have stood the test of time. The benefit of Altaire's procedure is that we can provide a uniquely versatile approach to providing the optimal skin care results that you are looking for.
What We Treat
Our dermatological experts can use our skin lesion removal techniques to treat a broad array of bothersome skin conditions. From milia and moles to warts, skin tags, and sebaceous hyperplasia (a swollen bump under the skin), Altaire Clinic is equipped to give your skin the help it needs.
What Outcome Can You Expect from Skin Lesion Removal?
Our practitioner will be happy to schedule a consultation with you in order to examine the extent of your skin lesion(s), as well as develop a personalized treatment plan that caters to your specific needs. If your medical professional determines that a skin lesion removal procedure is your best option, we will put a plan in place to remove the formation through one of the two methods mentioned above.
We can also provide recommendations to help you potentially reduce the development of additional skin lesions in the future, such as proper skincare techniques and skin-sensitive apparel choices.

What to Expect at Your Visit
Every journey at the clinic starts with an initial consultation. During this appointment, we will discuss your medical history (including medications and past procedures you've undergone), and a dermatological professional will perform a physical examination of the affected region(s).
Don't be afraid to tell your provider about any abnormalities you've noticed on your skin, no matter how minor. This will give your specialist more information to make an accurate assessment of your condition.
After completing a thorough skin examination, you'll have the chance to discuss potential diagnoses and treatment plans for any health or cosmetic concerns the provider may have found. With the initial consultation completed, you can then schedule an appointment for a skin lesion removal procedure.

Common Questions About Skin Lesion Removal
While the exact mechanism that causes skin tags isn't known, there is a cause-and-effect relationship between regular skin-to-skin contact and the development of skin tags. These formations commonly develop in areas where different patches of skin frequently rub together, such as in the armpits, eyelids, and neck. As a result, skin tags may occur more frequently in individuals who have folds of skin, such as pregnant women or people who are overweight.
The skin lesion removal procedure is a relatively simple one, whether you choose to go the route of surgical removal or laser removal. You'll need to keep the affected area covered and clean for the first 24-48 hours. The overall area typically heals in about 1-3 weeks.
Ideally, the goal of a skin lesion removal procedure is to get rid of the mole, skin tag, or other lesion permanently. This can be accomplished through surgical excision or laser removal. However, it is possible for a mole to recur (i.e. come back) after a removal procedure, in which case you should speak with your dermatological specialist for further guidance.
Like after any surgical procedure, you should keep the affected area clean and covered for the first 24-48 hours. After that amount of time has passed, carefully wash the treated area with soap and cool water, then gently pat dry. Replace any used bandages with clean ones. Your medical professional may have provided you with antibiotic ointment, which you should apply according to the provided directions. Follow any other guidance or advice given to you by your skincare specialist.
